Pakistan recall Malik after Misbah intervention

Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik was removed from the squad for the limited overs series against England only to be drawn back to the installation hours later, after a request from the captain Misbah-ul-Haq on Tuesday.

Malik struggles on the tours of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh took the axing of the pack test in UAE and selectors once again ignored before the intervention of Misbah.

"At the request of Pakistan team captain Misbah-ul-Haq, the national selection committee has pledged to send Malik to join the squad for the ODI and T20 matches," Pakistan Cricket Board statement said.

All-round Shahid Afridi however returned to the team a day after Pakistan completed a 3-0 Test whitewash over England.

Hammad Azam handed batter who played the last of their five one-dayers against Ireland in May 2011, was named in both ODI and Twenty20 squads.

The first-Dayer is scheduled for February 13 in Abu Dhabi and four-match series will be followed by three Twenty20 International on February 23, 25 and 27.

"We selected a team that is a mixture of experienced and young players. We also called an expert one day and Twenty20 and players like Hammad Awais Zia," chief selector Mohammad Illyas Reuters.

"The team won the test series comprehensively. But England is a top team and there is more work to be done in one day series."

Uncapped Zia, the only new face in the Twenty20 squad, is a wicketkeeper-opener that was rewarded by scoring heavily in the format.

Afridi, who quit Test cricket, was confident Pakistan would replicate their success Test against England in the limited over series.

"I think after the way they swept the series of tests that we are in a good position morally and psychologically to also win the one day series," Afridi told reporters.
