Kenya promise high-level security for Ireland

Cricket Kenya on Thursday promised high level security to Ireland for a period of four days and two Intercontinental Cup one-day international starting next week.

The games, which also include three Twenty-20 matches will be played in the city of Mombasa on the Indian Ocean from February 12-24.

The tour was confirmed on Tuesday by Cricket Ireland, which had already expressed concern about the security of the United Kingdom following a travel advisory on Kenya issued in January about a possible terrorist attack by the terrorist organization Al-Shabaab in Somalia. "We are delighted that Ireland has agreed to come. Cricket Kenya and the International Cricket Council (ICC) has been engaged in organizing a plan of high-level security for the team during the tour for two weeks," said Cricket Kenya chief executive Tom Sears.

"Ireland is a very strong team and is currently the team one day, and Kenya-top has the privilege to be playing them at the beginning of the year," said Sears.

After touring Kenya Ireland will travel to South Africa for a training camp two weeks before the Twenty20 World Cup qualifying tournament in the UAE in March.
