Change of format, but no change in result for India

The format has changed, but the fortunes of India. In the first of two T20 International, Australia won again in the near absence of a challenge to India's batsmen who finished 31 short chasing 172. The damage was minimized by skipper MS Dhoni 48, but the competition had finished among the eight most when India were reduced to 53-4. This time, they were undone by the pace of Australia, but the spin bowling of 40 years, Brad Hogg and part-timer David Hussey.

India lost 13 of their last 14 international matches abroad, a huge concern since veterans under fire, had a hand in eight of them. They had young players in other games. Compare this with Hogg, who is making his international return in 2008 have retired. He was named in Australian T20 squad after a prolific run in the Big League Bash.

Australia's score was created by Matthew Wade breezy Hussey 72 and 42 that kept pace with David Warner had set up a fast 25. After India elected to bowl, there were two big takeaways innings Australia. The first was the energy and body language of the Indians in the field.

The generational difference was very noticeable: the tests, India has a resignation, calm excitement to your destination. But the limited overs squad is different. The average age of eleven Indians play in Sydney today is 26 years. They dived around, gave chase hard, and when wickets fell, they celebrated with palpable energy. When Rahul Sharma bled from the right hand after falling down a difficult return catch off Travis Birt, he left the park, has written up and returned to finish their overs. Unfortunately for India, energy ceased to exist since they came out to bat.

The second was the dismantling of Australia Indian spinners. Ravichandran Ashwin played some even Warner and Wade, who took and provided the model for attacking batting. His confident step forward was followed by a nice straight swing of the bat. The ANZ Stadium - hosting its first international cricket establishment today - has long straight boundaries, about 90 meters on both sides. But Wade and Warner could easily clear them several times. Wade scored three sixes, two Warner - including a switch-hit over extra-cover Ashwin.

This is in contrast to the defensive approach of Nathan Lyon India Test in Adelaide, and they played as spinners in Australia today. Australia finished the competition after taking three wickets in three overs. Gautam Gambhir mistimed a drive to cover, Virat Kohli hit a ball short to long-on, and Rohit Sharma - who had been waiting since December to play for India - the first ball rolled by a faster one from Hussey . The shot was taken to try and strike poor rotation. There were no partnerships at the top order. The young team has a lot to learn and it is unlikely things will get easier for them in one day internationals next.
