India overcome middle-order slump to beat Sri Lanka

India made heavy weather of a modest run chase before fixing a four-wicket victory against Sri Lanka in the second leg of the triangular series in Perth on Wednesday.

After restricting Sri Lanka to 233 for eight, Virat Kohli (77) and Sachin Tendulkar (48) put India in a strong position before a middle order collapse almost derailed their innings.

It was up to par in India last recognized batting Ravindra Jadeja (24 not out) and Ravichandran Ashwin (30 not out) to guide them home with 20 balls to spare.

In a rematch of the World Cup final that India won in 2011 in Mumbai, Sri Lanka struggled for momentum with the bat.

Dinesh Chandimal (64) and Tillakaratne Dilshan (48) contributed almost half of the total Sri Lanka hardly justified decision captain Mahela Jayawardene to hit first.

India lost Virender Sehwag (10) early, but Kohli and Tendulkar added 75 runs to replace the pursuit on the track.

However, the March all Indiana fans have been waiting for once again failed to materialize.

Pursuing his 100th international century, Tendulkar looked comfortable against the Sri Lankan bowlers, but two runs short of his half of the 96th century, he dragged a delivery Angelo Mathews in their butts.

Tendulkar remains stuck in the 99 centuries since his last hit against South Africa in Nagpur, during the World Cup compared to 50 last March.

Tendulkar's dismissal sparked a mini collapse and India fell from 89 to 167 for one to five.

Rohit Sharma (10) could not do justice to his reputation, Suresh Raina (24) he has missed the start and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (four) continued his poor form with the bat in Australia.

Kohli then ran himself out after passing through a single non-existent and had to be helped off the field have been hurt.

Ashwin, the man tried to departure, showed great determination in the company and Jadeja scored the winning run when his miscued shot landed in the center-off with three Sri Lankan fielders running to catch it before withdrawing at the last minute.

India lost their opening match, losing to Australia by 65 runs in Melbourne on Sunday.
